This combination is used to relax the bronchial smooth muscles and loosen the viscous mucus and for the clearance of the air way
Indications
- Chronic bronchitis
- Emphysema
- Asthmatic bronchitis
- Acute tuberculosis
About Composition
Terbutaline:
Terbutaline is a selective beta2-adrenergic agonist. It stimulates the beta-2 receptors of the bronchial, vascular, and uterine smooth muscles (beta2 receptors) and causes the relaxation of smooth muscle and inhibits uterine contractions
Guaiphenesin:
Guaifenesin is an expectorant that acts by enhancing the secretion of phlegm(sputum) and viscous bronchial secretions via decreasing the adhesiveness and surface tension of such the sputum. It may also act as an irritant to gastric vagal receptors, and recruit efferent parasympathetic reflexes that can elicit glandular exocytosis that is comprised of a less viscous mucus mixture.
Bromhexine Hcl:
Bromhexine is the mucolytic and expectorant (increase mucous secretion) and is used in various respiratory disorders
Bromhexine increases the lysosomal activity which enhances the hydrolysis of the mucopolysaccride polymers and also break the disulphide linkage in the mucous
Menthol:
Menthol is cold receptor agonist and is used to treat sore throat, cold etc.
Menthol causes sensation of air passing through the nose, as it can make breathing easier during nasal congestion
