Cefixime Trihydrate IP
eq. to Cefixime        50 mg


Cefixime is the cephalosporin antibiotic. It falls under the first – generation cephalosporins. Cefixime is resistance against beta-lactamase enzymes. cefixime inhibits cell wall synthesis

Indications

  • Treats gonorrhoea
  • Used in tonsillitis
  • In ear infection
  • Bronchitis (inflammation in bronchi)
  • Used in throat infections.

Mechanism of Action

Cefixime acts by binding with the penicillin binding protein present inside the cell wall of the bacteria and prevent the cross- linking of the NAM and NAG by inhibiting the peptidoglycan synthetase, causes lysis of cell wall of bacteria

  • Contraindication

    • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity
    • Contraindicated in first trimester of pregnancy
