Ornidazole IP                     500 mg

Cefixime as Trihydrate is an oral third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Chemically, it is (6R,7R)-7-{[2-(2-amino-1,3- thiazol-4-yl)-2-(carboxymethoxyimino) acetyl]amino}-3- ethenyl-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo-[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2- carboxylic acid, clinically used in the treatment of susceptible infections including gonorrhoea, otitis media, pharyngitis, lower respiratory-tract infections such as bronchitis, and urinary-tract infections.
Ornidazole belongs to a group of medicines called anti-protozoals. It is used to treat infections caused by protozoa such as amoebiasis, trichomonasis. (Amebiasis is an intestinal illness that's typically transmitted when someone eats or drinks something that's contaminated with a microscopic parasite called Entamoeba histolytica (E. histolytica). The parasite is an amoeba, a single-celled organism. That's how the illness got its name — amebiasis.

Indications and Usage

  • Chronic Bronchitis
  • Lung Infection
  • Throat Infection
  • Urinary Tract infections
  • Protozoan Infection like Trichomoniasis
  • Hepatic and intestinal Amoebiasis
  • Amoebic Liver Abscess
Amebic liver abscess is caused by Entamoeba histolytica, the same parasite that causes amebiasis , an intestinal infection that is also called amebic dysentery. After an infection has occurred, the parasite may be carried by the blood from the intestines to the liver.

Mechanism of Action

Cefixime

Cefixime Trihydrate stops bacteria from multiplying by preventing bacteria from forming the cell wall that surround them because Cefixime is bactericidal beta-lactam antibiotic and it disrupt the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls. The peptidoglycan layer is important for cell wall structural integrity and it protect bacteria from their environment and to keep the contents of the bacterial cell together so without a cell wall bacteria cannot survive and die.

Ornidazole

Ornidazole is a 5-nitroimidazole derivative active against protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. It is converted to reduction products that interact with DNA to cause destruction of helical DNA structure and strand leading to a protein synthesis inhibition and cell death in susceptible organisms.

Side Effects

Cefixime Trihydrate and Ornidazole tablet side effects are common and usually only mild. If, however, any persist, worsen, or bothersome, inform your physician:
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness
