Each Uncoated Dispersible Tablet Contains:
Aciclovir IP 400 mg

It is nucleotide analog basically. It is used in the treatment of herpes simplex, varicella zoster and in acute herpes keratitis. It works on the enzyme deoxyribonucleic acid polymerase and process of DNA replication.


  • Bell’s palsy
  • Herpes simplex infection
  • Acute herpetic keratitis
  • Severe genital herpes

Mechanism of Action

Aciclovir is firstly converted into Aciclovir monophosphate and Aciclovir diphosphate or triphosphate with the help of the enzyme thymidine kinase & guanylate kinase or nucleoside diphosphate kinase, Aciclovir triphosphate binds to the viral DNA polymerase and then inactivates them.


Absorption- It is absorbed more by oral route when given orally but it shows less absorption when used topically
Protein Binding- It shows up to 33% of protein binding.
Metabolism- It undergoes oxidation
Excretion- It is excreted unchanged via urine

  • Contraindicated in people with known hypersensitivity
  • Contraindicated in renal impairment
