About Composition
Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide:
Dextromethorphan suppresses medullary cough centre and is an NMDA
receptor antagonist (receptors, N-methyl-D-aspartate). It acts as a non-
competitive channel blocker and is one of the widely used antitussives
Dextromethorphan is categorized as an opioid drug that acts as antagonist to the
NMDA glutamatergic receptor.
Chlorpheniramine Maleate:
Diphenhydramine acts on histamine H1 receptor as an inverse agonist. It
structurally resembles the ethanolamine class of antihistaminergic agents. By
antagonising the effects of histamine on the capillaries, it can reduce the
tenseness of allergic symptoms. It also acts centrally as it crosses
the blood–brain barrier and inversely agonizes the H 1 receptors which can
result in drowsiness.
Guaiphenesin:
Guaifenesin is as an expectorant that acts by enhancing the removal of
sputum and bronchial secretions by decreasing the adhesiveness and
surface tension of sputum to the respiratory tract
Ammonium Chloride:
Ammonium chloride can be used as an expectorant. It works by causing irritative action on the bronchial mucosa thus causes the production of respiratory tract fluid which in order facilitates the effective cough.
